WILLOW OBELISK WORKSHOP

About this event

 

Justine Holdsworth is a practicing willow weaver,

basket maker, and willow grower, who runs regular

workshops at The Workshop in Whitley Bay. 

 

On this visit to this breathtaking venue she will demonstrate and support you through this fun half day workshop. You will be using sustainable, locally sourced willow grown and harvested from a plot in the stunning Northumberland National Park. She will impart information on the varieties of willow used, the process of soaking and the different traditional weaves you will be using. You will take home a unique handmade willow obelisk to put in your garden or place in a pot, where you can watch your favourite climbers grow through it. Justine’s fave is a blousy clematis any day.

Who is it for: The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced. 

What to Bring: Weather appropriate clothing, layers can be  helpful. Bottle of water or drink, snacks (optional), any personal medication needed, sun lotion, camera, notebook and pen.

FORAGING WALK with Rachel Lambert - Forager, Author, Guide

Mon 7th Aug, 12-2.30pm Mannington Hall, North Norfolk

Adults £40, under 16s £20, under 5s free

On this summer foraging walk We will be wander across the rambling Estate at Mannington, onto the wetlands, over water meadow, stopping to quietly watch the bird life in the bird hide, before circling the moated house and back to the camp.  The board walk snakes through the meadow, which in August has towering plants either side buzzing with bees and moths. Learn about edible summer flowers, herbs and how to spot early autumn delights

Who is it for: Adults, children, families, all children must be accompanied

Level of Walk: Approximately 1.5-2 miles

Summer foraging course, what to expect;

  • Leisurely guided walk with lots of stops and tasters

  • Covering 8-10 wild foods

  • Thorough guidance on plant identification

  • Tried and tested suggestions on cooking, processing tips and lots of recipe ideas

  • Information of nutritional and medicinal benefits, where known (please note I am not a medical herbalist)

  • May include potential mistakes and look-a-like plants

  • Information on legalities, sustainability and safety

  • Opportunity to buy a signed copy of my book/s - these are only available beforehand and can be posted

  • Follow up email with list of plants covered and links to recipes and more info

  • Homemade tasters made with wild, foraged ingredients,

Other Info:

What to wear: Courses are a mixture of walking and a fair amount of standing around to learn. Please prepare for British weather and check the forecast beforehand - bring/wear layers, a wind proof and weather appropriate clothing. Footwear suitable for the walk outlined (above) and that you are confident walking in.

Meet: Exact meeting point TBC. Walk will be held at: Amber's Bell Tents, Mannington, Norwich, Norfolk, NR11 7BB

Min/Max numbers: 5-15 in total. You are welcome to come alone or with others.
