Mannington Hall is where our camp site story began. We started here in 2012 with just 2 tents situated in a small meadow in the grounds of the main house. Today, our flagship site is home to 6 of our cosy and stylish 6m bell tents nestled deep within this hidden swathe of North Norfolk countryside. The tents are situated on 'Owl's Retreat', a beautiful 3 acre square field rooted within the Walpole Estate and home to a family of Barn Owls that can be seen hunting in the twilight.
Owl's Retreat backs onto a wilderness water meadow - a nature reserve with a circular board walk which snakes through the towering wild flowers and plants in the height of Summer. There is a bird hide, for budding twitchers and a pond where little ones can explore the water life - tadpoles in the Spring, dragonfly larvae in the Summer. From the tents, campers can walk through paths and into the impressive Mannington Hall Gardens, which are open to the public a few hours a week during the summer months, but which are part of the experience for our campers here.
Note: There are no wood burning stoves in the tents at Mannington Hall and Wiveton Hall….there will still be a fire pit outside your tent for cooking and warming your feet in the evening…gas stoves are available to purchase for cooking. All other sites will still have wood stoves in the tents.

You are welcome to lose yourselves in this luscious slice of English Country Garden. Wander through the walled garden, enjoying the perfume of the roses (over 1000 varieties) - explore the lake walk, fern gardens, children's wild meadow area, all with the stunning architectural back drop of the hall itself; a moated medieval beauty.
The tents on Owl's Retreat are spread out in a circle, each with their slice of Norfolk countryside outside, and with our field shelter supplying a little hub in the middle - a sheltered space with seating, a full size table tennis table, field games, pond dipping supplies and nature resources, honesty shop for wood supplies here. Don't forget our wood fired pizza oven - for an easy al fresco supper, and our rustic spa area, home to our fantastic wood fired sauna and field shower. On a Summer evening, grown ups can sit round their camp fires and enjoy the stars and unspoilt nature around them, while the small people swarm around, enjoying the space and the opportunity to enjoy a little bit of freedom to roam independently, make friends and have adventures.
You can enjoy beautiful walks, straight from your tents, around the estate, taking in the den making areas in the woodland, streams, lakes, ruined chapel, and beyond, to the idyllic village of Itteringham, where you can stock up on camp supplies from one of the oldest shops in the UK, refuel with tea and cake in the adjoining tearoom, or if more sustainance is needed, head to the infamous Walpole Arms, renowned for serving award winning local produce in a charming old English pub setting and delightful garden.

Cycling is fabulous round here too! The leafy lanes just go on and on.
Cycle to a nearby wild swimming spot (marked on your in tent maps), for an invigorating break. Takes the bikes into the woods at nearby NT Blickling Estate - and stop at one of the many tea rooms and pubs on route. There is cycle hire here if you don't want to bring you own, and local maps provided.
Look out for Mannington Minnows, a nature club running nature discovery days on the estate during the school holiday offering the chance of children age 6 and above the opportunity to explore their wonderful natural surroundings. Programmes usually include pond dipping, den building, bats, conservation, bees, natural crafting and much more. Your children are welcome to join in - days are normally 10-3. More details can be found on the Mannington Hall website and are to be booked directly with the Hall.
The locally cherished tea room is open alongside the garden opening times at Mannington Hall, offering a vision of cake beauty along with brunch, light lunches and afternoon teas.
The local partners we've recruited for this site mean you can book bikes and have them dropped to you at the site. Enjoy a pro massage with therapist Dave Wain in the privacy of your tent. He'll bring his table, you can get your stove lit and chill. Having a special gathering? Have bespoke cakes delivered to your tent decks. Organising a bigger group gathering?

And Beyond:
Walk over the field to Itteringham for teas, cake and supplies from the village store. (maps in the tents) Open 9-5.30 (4pm Sunday).
Walk to the pub! - The Walpole Arms in Itteringham is a fabulous spot. Great food and a beautiful garden.
Wild swimming - there's a deeply refreshing swimming hole marked on your in tent maps.
Blickling Estate - If you haven't had enough historic grandeur, NT landmark Blickling Hall is a couple of miles away, with estate walks, cycle trails, tea rooms, gardens, hall and the Bucks Arms estate pub. That is a day out in itself!
Baconsthorpe Castle - Visit this rural ruin - a 15th century moated Manor House. No tickets or entry cost. Just a car park, and a great place to picnic.
The Pigs - A favourite pub and restaurant for little and big piggies - with award winning play area outside with zip wires and den building, and a games room for bigger people indoors too! And the food's ace!
Cycling - take in all these glorious things on your doorstep by bike and enjoy the journey as much as the destinations. Huff and Puff will drop bikes for all the family for no extra charge to your tent!
Head to the beach! West Runton is the closest sandy beach. Park on the cliff and wander down. Check the tide tables before you leave if you want to explore the rock pools!

Weddings and events - Mannington is host to a handful of weddings held on some Saturdays throughout the season. They are held on the lawn out the front of the hall, a 5 minute walk from the tents. They don't affect your stay at all, as they are on a separate part of the estate. Mannington doesn't host large weddings, but there will be some music playing. Their license is until 11.30pm. You can still access the gardens and grounds around the house for walks and pond dipping etc, and the tea rooms will be open as usual on the Sunday morning. If you have concerns, you can contact us before you book to find out if your stay falls on a wedding weekend. We will also send you an an email about it once booked.

Bathrooms
a pre existing block containing separate male and female sides with 3 loos and 2 hot water showers in each. There is also a separate disabled loo and baby change area and a hot water washing up area.
Where are we
Mannington hall is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, near the village of Itteringham, 6 miles from the market towns of Aylsham and Holt. The North Norfolk coast is an easy 10 mile drive away, and the broads about the same in the other direction. The easy, arty city of Norwich is 15 miles south.
